Dudhsagar Waterfalls, an enchanting natural wonder is nestled in the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, of the vibrant state of Goa. Embarking on a journey from Margao to Dudhsagar Waterfalls was an adventure that promised me a blend of scenic beauty, adrenaline-pumping excitement, and an unforgettable experience. The route from Margao to Dudhsagar, passing through Curchorem and Collem, takes you through lush landscapes and dense forests, culminating in the breathtaking sight of the Dudhsagar Waterfalls. Tucked away amidst the Western Ghats, this breathtaking cascade of milky white waters is a testament to Goa’s untamed beauty and splendor. Join me as I recount my personal journey to this enchanting destination, revealing the wonders that await every traveler seeking solace in nature’s embrace.

My journey to Dudhsagar Waterfalls commences with a captivating prelude from Margao to Curchorem, where winding roads and quaint villages set the stage for adventure. From Curchorem, the route unfolds into a scenic drive through nature’s canvas, as I traverse lush landscapes en route to Collem. This gateway to Dudhsagar teems with anticipation, offering glimpses of the majestic cascade that awaits. Each leg of the journey unveils Goa’s unspoiled beauty, paving the way for the awe-inspiring spectacle that awaits at Dudhsagar Waterfalls.

The Jeep Safari ride to Dudhsagar Waterfalls, was a heart-pounding adventure. The open-top Jeep navigates dense forests and uneven terrains, offering an adrenaline-fueled ride filled with anticipation. As the vehicle maneuvers through the picturesque landscape, passengers are treated to panoramic views and the immersive sounds of nature. The Jeep Safari not only adds an element of excitement to the expedition but also provides a unique perspective of Dudhsagar’s grandeur, making it an unforgettable and exhilarating part of the overall experience.

Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary, with a total area of 240 sq km, is the largest of Goa’s four protected wildlife areas, and contains within it The Dudhsagar Waterfalls in The Molem National Park, is a sight to behold, standing tall at a staggering height of 310 meters. Legend has it that the falls derive their name, which translates to “Sea of Milk,” from the frothy appearance of the cascading waters resembling the creamy richness of milk. The lush greenery surrounding the falls adds to its allure, creating a picturesque oasis amidst the verdant wilderness.

After the exhilarating Jeep Safari and a soul-refreshing visit to Dudhsagar Waterfalls, my journey continued as I headed back to Vasco da Gama, embracing the simplicity and comfort of a train ride from Collem or Kulem Train Station.

Travel Time: The journey from Margao to Dudhsagar takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours by road, depending on traffic conditions and the chosen mode of transportation.

Travel Direction: Begin your journey from Margao and head east on NH748 towards Mollem.

Follow the signs for Dudhsagar Waterfalls/Mollem National Park, continuing on NH748 until you reach the entrance of the national park.

Transport Options:

Private Vehicle: Opting for a private car or taxi service provides flexibility and convenience, allowing you to explore the falls at your own pace. Many local tour operators also offer customized transportation packages for day trips to Dudhsagar Waterfalls from Margao.

Public Bus: Public buses operated by the Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) connect Margao with Mollem National Park. Timings

Dudhsagar Waterfalls doesn’t have specific opening or closing hours, as it is a natural attraction. If you are interested in Jeep Safari from Collem, below are the charges per person. It may subject to change, any time. You need to check with them upon your arrival if you are not booking it online. There are certain considerations and factors to keep in mind before reaching starting this adventure.

1. Accessibility:

The accessibility to Dudhsagar Waterfalls may vary based on the mode of transportation. If you are planning to reach the falls by train, it’s essential to check the train schedules in advance. Usually, the first train from Vasco to Collem starts at around 6am. If you are heading towards Vasco or Margoa from Collem, the last train starts at 5pm. If you are opting for a Jeep Safari, guided tours generally have specific departure times from Collem.

2. Guided Tours:

If you are participating in a guided Jeep Safari or trek, these tours usually have scheduled departure times, and it’s advisable to check and book in advance. There is an official website for booking Jeep Safaris. However, there is a booking counter at Collem but it will be crowded most of the times. Reach the counter early to avoid any surprises at the last moment.

3. Park Regulations:

Dudhsagar Waterfalls is located within the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. Visitors are expected to follow park regulations and guidelines, which may include specific hours of operation for entry and exit.

Please note that the availability and details of accommodations may have changed, so it’s recommended to check recent reviews and booking platforms for the latest information.

1. Collem:

Collem is the nearest town to Dudhsagar Waterfalls and serves as the base for Jeep Safaris and other excursions to the falls. There may be guesthouses or budget hotels in Collem.

2. Kulem:

Another nearby town is Kulem, which is often used interchangeably with Collem. Some guesthouses or small hotels may be available here.

Located around 15 kilometers from Dudhsagar Waterfalls, this resort offers a comfortable stay and is known for its scenic surroundings.

Important Note: I stayed in a dormitory near Dabolim International airport and explored Dudhsagar by taking the bus route from Dabolim to Margoa to Curchorem to Collem Train station. On return, I took a train from Collem to Vasco via Dabolim. Once you reach Vasco, you will not have bus facilities as the train reaches by 7 or 7:30 pm which is a closing time for all the bus stations in Goa.
