Nestled in the heart of bustling Bengaluru lies a timeless green haven—Lalbagh Botanical Garden. On my recent trip to the city, I decided to take a breather from the traffic and tech buzz to explore this lush botanical paradise. And what an experience it was!

🚶♂️ Walking Through History & Greenery
As I entered the majestic gates of Lalbagh, I was immediately greeted by well-manicured lawns, flowering trees, and vibrant seasonal blooms. This 240-acre garden isn’t just a retreat for nature lovers—it’s a piece of living history. Originally commissioned by Hyder Ali in the 18th century and later expanded by Tipu Sultan, Lalbagh beautifully blends Mughal design with natural beauty.
🌺 The Glass House: Jewel of the Garden
One of the highlights of my visit was the iconic Glass House, inspired by London’s Crystal Palace. Though I missed the annual flower show this time, the architecture itself was mesmerizing—perfect for photography and just admiring the calm surroundings.
🌳 Trees That Tell Tales
Lalbagh is home to over 1,800 species of plants, including centuries-old trees. I was amazed to find labels on many trees, detailing their origin and age—some dating back over 200 years! From giant silk cotton trees to the African Baobab, it felt like walking through a global botanical museum.
🪨 The Peninsular Gneiss Rock
Climbing up the famous Lalbagh Rock, one of the oldest rock formations on Earth (about 3,000 million years old!), was both thrilling and peaceful. The panoramic view of the city from the top was breathtaking—an oasis of green in the middle of urban chaos.
🐦 Birdwatching & Serene Lakeside Views
The tranquil Lalbagh Lake attracted flocks of birds—cormorants, egrets, and even kingfishers. Sitting by the lake and watching the ripples and birds fluttering around felt incredibly meditative.
