The Journey Begins: A Scenic Ride from Mysuru to Chamundi Hills
The journey from Mysuru to Chamundi Hills is as delightful as the destination itself. I boarded a local bus from one of the many bus stops around the city. Mysuru’s well-connected public transport system made it easy for both locals and tourists to travel to Chamundi Hills.
The bus ride is approximately 30 minutes long, covering around 13 kilometers from the city center. As we left the bustling streets of Mysuru behind, the journey took me through quieter lanes, with lush greenery on either side. The climb to the top of Chamundi Hills offers glimpses of the city below, with the view getting better as the bus ascends.
Views Along the Way
The bus ride up Chamundi Hills is one of those rare experiences where the journey itself becomes a part of the adventure. As we ascended, the road meandered through dense forests, with tall trees lining the way. The cool breeze and the occasional bird calls added to the natural charm of the ride.

The view of Mysuru from the bus window was breathtaking. With the palace and the city sprawling below, the landscape gradually transitioned from the busy urban landscape to tranquil, forested hills. The bus made a few stops along the way, allowing me to enjoy some of the best views of the surrounding area.
The Final Approach: Reaching Chamundeshwari Temple
As the bus reached the final stretch, it passed by the famous Mahishasura Statue, a monumental sculpture that stands at the foot of the hill. The statue is an iconic symbol of the Chamundi Hills and serves as a reminder of the mythological tale of Mahishasura, the demon who was slain by Goddess Chamundeshwari.
Once the bus reached the top, I could see the temple complex up ahead. The Chamundeshwari Temple, perched atop the hill, is a significant pilgrimage site and one of the most revered temples in Karnataka. Dedicated to Goddess Chamundeshwari, the temple is an architectural marvel, built in the Dravidian style.
Exploring the Temple Complex
Upon reaching the hilltop, I was immediately taken by the peaceful atmosphere that enveloped the area. The temple, with its intricate carvings and towering gopuram (entrance tower), stood tall against the backdrop of the sky. The temple’s sanctum houses the idol of Goddess Chamundeshwari, and the peaceful surroundings make it a serene place for reflection and devotion.
I spent some time inside the temple, offering prayers and soaking in the spiritual vibe of the place. The temple is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and provides a perfect spot for spiritual seekers as well as nature lovers.
Enjoying the Panoramic View of Mysuru
One of the main highlights of visiting Chamundi Hills is the panoramic view of Mysuru City from the top. The view is simply mesmerizing, with the Mysuru Palace, the Karanji Lake, and other landmarks clearly visible. The lush greenery surrounding the city adds to the charm of the landscape, making it a perfect spot for photography or simply sitting back and enjoying the vast view.

There are also several other attractions at the hilltop, such as the Nandi Statue, the Vishnu Temple, and a few other smaller shrines, making it a great place to explore for history and culture enthusiasts.
Return Journey: A Peaceful Ride Down
After spending ample time at the temple and enjoying the views, I boarded the bus again to head back to Mysuru. The bus ride down was just as enjoyable, offering a fresh perspective of the landscape I had already witnessed. The descent was smoother, and the views of Mysuru were even more beautiful in the soft evening light.
The bus trip provided a sense of convenience and comfort while offering a scenic and relaxed experience, allowing me to take in the beauty of the hills without the physical strain of a climb.
